This is one of the best ever action films. The action scenes are spectacular, mixing thrilling car chases through the neon lit streets of Seoul, with some brutal and bone-breaking fight scenes. This film is so good that I had to then buy a bluray copy as well as buying (ebay) a (still) unused bluray Steelbook. You already know where this is all heading, but that shouldn’t detract from what is a really fun and well-made film. In this case, the package is a small boy in possession of a bank security fob for an account holding millions of dollars.

But rather than takeaways and Amazon packages, she is more likely to be delivering stolen goods, ferrying people who are on the run, or being a getaway driver for gangsters and common criminals.Īs we so often see with these types of films, her perfectly ordered existence is thrown into chaos when her latest job comes with a package that is being hunted by a lot of very dangerous people.

Written and directed by Park Dae-min, ‘Special Delivery’ stars Park So-dam (best known internationally for her starring role in ‘Parasite’) as Eun-ha, a delivery driver in Seoul. If you’re less keen on those movies, this might not be for you. Luckily for me, I like all of those films and therefore had a great time with this. There’s no getting away from the fact that this South Korean action thriller owes some very specific debts to films such as ‘Drive’, ‘Gone in 60 Seconds’, ‘Baby Driver’, and ‘The Transporter’.

Russian Raid will find many fans of action films off guard in the best way possible. You will probably feel like you have seen some version of ‘Special Delivery’ before.
#The raid blu ray movie
The film on Blu-Ray is handsomely image sharp, beautiful color reproduction, and spot on contrast levels (the movie takes place mostly at night and low level light). Well Go USA has been given a beautiful transfer of the film. Similar to the great Sputnik, Russian Raid finds if an audience member willing to take the leap they will be rewarded. It helps that the film was cast from the top beginning with Kotik with stuntmen. Sedov’s work which leans more towards the Asian school of action which favors camera movement and uninterrupted takes over flashy editing. The camera work by cinematographer Alexey Sedov always keeps the action and the geography at the forefront. The film is as slickly produced as any other action film you’ll see this year. Kryuchkov with his stuntmen/actors and their willingness to go all-in creates a milieu throughout the film that makes the fights more impactful than other martial arts films out of Asia, the US, and Europe. It is one of the surprises that make the film an unexpected surprise. Also of note, rather than go with your normal heightened sound FX work that others have gone for Russian Raid sides on a more realistic soundscape which will shock many at first. Yes, the film is highly choreographed, but this is more of the MMA/Jiu-Jitsu style of fighting rather than Silat. Kryuchkov’s film finds its own ways to put its creative stamp on the martial arts and fight scenes. I use the word inspired in quotes because Director/Co-Writer Denis Kryuchkov puts his own spin on the story, the setup, and even the action that it feels like Evan’s Indonesian classic is truly just a starting point. Russian Raid was “inspired” by Gareth Evan’s The Raid. It’s all about to get a lot more complicated as the owner of that cache and Nikita’s target closes in on them.

Never mind the fact that Nikita took the job as he saw it as a way to get his final revenge in the name of his father. Nikita and his less than cooperative team get more than they bargained for as their employer has left out that this could be the location of a Russian Military cache. In the film, an elite squad is tasked to infiltrate a high-rise building run by a ruthless drug lord in the slums. The film stars Iko Uwais, who previously worked with Evans in another action film, Merantau, released in 2009. Nikita (Ivan Kotik) an ex-Spetznaz operative (think CIA or MI-6) now Merc-For-Hire is given a team to forcibly remove a “Security Team” and the “Share Holders” of an abandoned warehouse. The Raid is a 2011 4 Indonesian action thriller film written, directed and edited by the Welsh filmmaker Gareth Evans. If you like the flavor of said action with subtitles… Russian Raid is going to be your cup of tea… laced with nitroglycerin. Sometimes you need a no-frills straight-ahead action film.
